Case 2024: Franz (expert opinion by P. Barthélémy)

Franz, 60 years old, is a fan of classical music. He knows all about the history of Austria’s famous composers. While Mozart is most famous for a lot of people, Franz appreciates Strauss even more. ‘An der schönen blauen Donau’ can move him to tears. Franz presented with haematuria and pain in his right flank.

  • ECOG PS: 0
  • Obesity, otherwise no notable medical history
  • CT scan: right renal mass, no metastatic lesions, no retroperitoneal adenopathy

He underwent radical nephrectomy of the right kidney. Pathological findings:

  • pT3a tumour of 9.5 cm
  • WHO/ISUP grade 3 ccRCC
  • No sarcomatoid features
  • Negative surgical margins

6 weeks after nephrectomy, the patient has recovered and comes to you for check-up.

Which option would you choose for Franz (not taking into account regulatory approval and local restrictions)?
